It was in the old profile no 234 by Alfred Price credited to a Hans Redemann no details though, also two photos in the Griehl/Dreesl book with ' Bruchlandung der He 177 A-3 nach Einseitigem Triebwerksausfall '

There is an emblem on the starboard side just forward of the wing and below the blister which resembles a "piggy?" face. May be a clue to the aircraft.

Re: Can anyone identify this He 177 crash

Would the wintry conditions make 21-1-1944 a possibility, aircraft 5560 was reported as being destroyed in an emergency landing following engine fire in no. 4 engine. There was no NVM for this aircraft so assume the crew were uninjured, cannot find a location for the crash. Is there a single track railway near Chateaudun airfield ?

Hi Brian

I found this link below to Fold3 showing the airfield you mention and it does look like there is a single track leading into the base. Hope it helps somewhat

Re: Can anyone identify this He 177 crash

Hi Vince, I went off Google Earth showing the rail network around Chateaudun which includes single track near the airfield. While the photo does not indicate 21-1-44 sometimes a post on TOCH can bring out further info. which answers one way or the other, or can give a more accurate answer. That is my hope on this thread from Chris, as I to would like to get an identification on this aircraft. There are two photos of this crash in the Griehl book one which show the full fin and rudder if there is a copy as clear as the one on the thread it might show a werk nummer,

Regards

The brand of the car in the background could provide a clue: French ? German?
Any car expert around ?
