Hampden P4321 EA-T of 49 Sqn
Can anyone with access to 49 Sqn records say when the Sqn disposed of this aircraft, as P4321 landed at X/Church at 0850 hours on 28th Nov 1940 after suffering instrument problems over the target area and failure of hydraulics. It seems to have remained on the airfield for some time so perhaps it took along time to fix or 49 Sqn got rid of it asap so it was waiting around for a flight to an MU. It later went to 1AAS at Manby and was eventually SOC on 13th April 1943.
Incidentally arrival at 0850 hrs suggests the aircraft was flying around lost or waiting for daylight. The target was Cologne. The pilot on this occasion was Brian Herbert Evans, who was murdered after the Stalag Luft 3 Great Escape.
