Re: Mock combat Tempest V vs. Dora 13

Wish I took notes when an Ex. Bundesluftwaffe Starfighter CO (Oberst or Oberstleutnant a.D) told me the story as it was related to him by his erstwhile CO (Josten).

It may have been second hand, but it was a good yarn!

Shame on me for forgetting even the name of this nice fellow.

The combat took place in the area of Husum (a Tempest base), on the other side of the pennisula from Flensburg (a Typhoon base), according to the text in Hermann's 'Long Nose' book.

Flensburg was the base the plane took off from & the test was conducted at 10.000 feet

Yes it took off from there and the ceiling limit for the mock combat was 10,000ft(3km).

Re: Mock combat Tempest V vs. Dora 13

Since the Tempest was best below 10,000 feet, wasn't it a bit of a gift to the Tempest?

In the book yellow 10 Major Heinz lange say that the planes were evenly matched & it would be down to the skills of the pilots who won
