Jagdwaffe Tailband questions

Does anyone know when tailbands began appearing on aircraft of JG5 and JG2?

Re: Jagdwaffe Tailband questions

For JG 5, very late. Seems like they were painted in late april 1945

Re: Jagdwaffe Tailband questions

JG 2 likely started using their bands even before the January 1945 dictum by the RLM. Shots taken of their D-9s during Bodenplatte show these. However, they started with the D-9 in mid-December, 1945. These were I and III Gruppen. I do not recall ever seeing the II Gruppe A models or their 109s with bands.

And there are a number of Allied wreck reports of D-9s with yellow/white/yellow bands - again from the Bodenplatte period.

Re: Jagdwaffe Tailband questions

So if I understand correctly, when the landings in Normandy began the western front Jagdwaffe units adorned with tailbands were JG1 (red), JG3 (white), JG11 (yellow), III/JG54 (blue) and JG27 (green)...am I missing any?

I know when III/JG53 began Reichsverteidigung operations in late July/August 1944 they were using black tailbands.
