Heinz-Otto Berg

An obscure pilot who flew for the entire war. Personally stated he shot down forty-three aircraft.

I would be grateful if somebody could list all his units and dates applied.

Seems he was shot down and captured by Russians in April 1945.

Grateful for any help on this one

Kind Regards

Johannes

Re: Heinz-Otto Berg

Hi Carsten

Many thanks for your reply. I would not say he overclaimed, more he exaggerated, stated he had about twenty-five claims + with JG 52. I have a list of pilots(still alive and flying with JG 52) with more than ten claims dated April 1943 and Berg is omitted from this list.

What I am looking for is the actual staffeln he flew for and exactly when as I have a claim with 5./JG 4 for a certain Fw Berg, though I think this is for Karl Berg, but could well be wrong.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Re: Heinz-Otto Berg

Gentlemen,

43 air to air kills for Heinz-Otto Berg seems to be right. Over ten kills against the Western Allies and over 20 kills against the Soviets. He did survived the WWII.

Re: Heinz-Otto Berg

Hi Edward

Many thanks for your input, but forty-three is certainly not the case. What he quoted for JG 52 does not match the mikrofilms facts, yet the other pilots he flew with are a perfect match, as stated below I think he exaggerated post-war. He had one only(viermot) confirmed in the West, but could be two.

Kind Regards

Johannes
