Haugk brothers

Morning Guys

I have finally identified a 1./ZG 76 claim for a B-24 on 19th December 1943 1208 uhr as a Ofw Haugk.

Historically we are quoted Helmut Haugk having 18 victores(6 viermots") and his Brother Helmut as 9 victories(8 "viermots"). I found 12 victories(1 "viermot") for Helmut and absolutely nothing for Werner, in the case of Werner one could be thinking they were pre-daily mikrofilms entries, but it is implied with the 8 heavy bombers that this is not the case.

Helmut was a Ofw on 21st December 1942, but as he was allegedly Staffelkapitän of 4./ZG 76 from 20th October 1943 then he must have been an offizier.

Werner was a non-officer when he received his Ritterkreuz on 8th August 1944, but though he flew with ZG 76 we are told the 4th Staffel like his Brother, can we prove this or as I suspect this claim for a B-24 was in fact by Werner Haugk ! Also the January 1944 daily mikrofilms are missing, but we have the Staffel/Date and time mikrofilms, I have yet to identify claimaints for 11th January 1944 1225 uhr, 29th January 1944 1141 uhr and 29th January 1944 1146 uhr with 1./ZG 76, Werner could be the claimant here!
Werner being by far the more obscure pilots also makes me think it is him.

Any comment welcome.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Re: Haugk brothers

Hi Guys

I found three losses details for Werner Haugk each as an Oberfeldwebel:-

Stab./ZG 76 6th March 1944.

4./ZG 76 29th January 1944, so obviously not responsible for the other unaccounted 1./ZG 76 claims.

1./ZG 76 11th January 1944, just three weeks after the claim.

Therefore I conclude this claims was by Werner Haugk

Kind Regards

Johannes

Re: Haugk brothers

Indeed you are right. In September Errata to ZG 76 I updated this info to claim list.
For the mentioned days, do you have the other claimants identified already?

Re: Haugk brothers

Hi Peter

Just a few names to establish from horrible handwriting and also some for January 1944 that list date and time only. Trouble is that some will be by bordfunker.

Kind Regards
