Gelb identification markings on fighters in the BoB
This from a report dated 26-Aug-40 covering visits to units of Lfl. 2 in the period 20- to 25-Aug-40 (so the days just before the transfer of almost all of the single- and twin-engine fighters from Lfl. 3 to Lfl. 2 on 28-Aug-40):
"18.) Allgemein b) Die Luftflotte 2 hat die Flächen-Enden ihrer Jäger gelb gestrichen, eine gute Erkennungsmaßnahme. Die Jäger von Luftflotte 3 haben davon keine Erkenntniss." This comes from an archive file recently digitized by the BA. Image reference is RL_3_50_0536. |

Re: Gelb identification markings on fighters in the BoB
A PS to the above.
Unfortunately, ZG 26 was not one of the units visited, so the writer of this report was unaware that within ZG 26 it was white that was being used for the equivalent identification markings. |
