Re: Bf.110G-4 shot down on night 27/28th May 1944

Hi Hans

Just as Frank says, Balss has published two books. If you look at the one you have it also says "Ergänzungen zu Personalverlusten, etc". Although as Frank says the title is different from the first one, the layout is more or less exactly the same and your book contains first of all additional information to vol 1 but also new accidents/crashes which had come to light during the intervening years. The reason Balss changed the title slightly in his vol 2 into Materialverluste instead of Personalverluste is most likely the German "bad" habit during the war NOT to mention the crew involved if not killed, wounded or missing. A large number of the accidents, if you again look in your volume, lacks all kind of crew names.

Cheers
Stig

Hello Stig,

Nice to know I've the second edition, but for some reason the loss of the Bf.110 on 28th May 1944 was appearently only mentioned in the first edition! Hence the confusion.

Mr Heuser,

Nice to know that a revised editon is coming up. I initially thougt that all contact with Mr Balss was lost?

Best regards,
Hans Nauta

Hello Mark,

You've mixed up some data. Uffz Serwein and Gefr Morath died in the night of 5/6th June 1944 when their Bf.110G-4 G9+NS Wnr 440272 crashed at 00.54 hrs on the North beach of the Dutch Frisian Island of Schiermonnikoog. Pilot was Uffz Adolf Stürmer.

The Bf.110 fell victim to a Mossie of 25 Squadron.

Regards,
Hans Nauta

Dear Mr. Nauta,
the only thing I know is that M. Balss plans a revisited edition. Whatever it means...

And, AFAIK he is not lost, only very busy.

Regards,

Heuser

Thanks Hans. Air Britain says Bailey's Mosquito was HJ714. Is there any information about another 110 claimed that night in the same area by Reeves in DD622?
