JG2 Personnel

I would be very grateful to anyone that could supply some information regarding the following pilots:
Ofw. Willi Stratmann
Ofw. Kurt Goltzsch

In researching USAAF personnel I can find out when the men joined, missions flown, etc. but I am having a more difficult time with the Luftwaffe pilots. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
Brian

Re: JG2 Personnel

Hello Brian,
I don't know how much information you have already but I have some basic knowledge of these two pilots.

Oblt. Willi Stratmann - 29 aerial victories, awarded the DKiG, KIA 21 Oct. 1944. A list of his victories are probably available at Tony Woods site.

Oblt. Kurt Goltzsch - 43 aerial victories, awarded the RK, DOW 26 Sept 1944. 130 FF. As Goltzsch was a RKT there should be a bit of information about him on the internet. I know I have seen various photo's of him in books but I am not at home at the moment, so cannot look. From memory, JG2 by Holger Nauroth a a couple of photo's. Also see Woods site.

Regards,
Andy

Thank you both very much! Excellent information that I did not have. I would certainly appreciate a photo of the pilots as well.

JG 2 Personnel

Hello Brian

Here is a little of what I have on Goltzsch:

Kurt Goltzsch was born on 21 November 1912 at Leipzig. Feldwebel Goltzsch claimed his first victory during the Battle of Britain with 8./JG 2. Oberfeldwebel Goltzsch claimed 14 victories in North Africa while serving with 4./JG 2. Leutnant Goltzsch was serving as Staffelkapitän of 5./JG 2 when shot down in aerial combat on 4 September 1943 in Bf 109 G-6 (W.Nr. 20 209) over Monchy-les-Preux. He broke his back during the ensuing belly-landing and was paralyzed, dying of his wounds at Glauchau on 26 September 1944. While in hospital he had been awarded the Ritterkreuz on 5 February 1944. Posthumously he was promoted to Oberleutnant. His total of 43 victories includes at least five four-engined bombers.

I hope that you find this useful for your purposes.

Horrido!

Leo

Re: JG2 Personnel

Could someone tell me what their best bet is to what type of plane they would have been flying in June of 1943?

Are there sites that detail the aces careers such as any training they would have had? For example I know my grandfather's boot camp, gunnery school, etc.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

John Beaman is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: JG2 a/c types

At that time period, if they were both in II./JG 2 it would have been Bf 109G-6 machines. If in 11. or 12./JG 2 it might have been G-4 or G-3 types.

JG 2 Personnel

Hi Brian

Here is a little of what I have on Willi Stratmann. As you can see it is very little indeed.

Unteroffizier Stratmann claimed his first victory on 24 June 1941 with 7./JG 2. Fahnenjunker-Oberfeldwebel Stratmann was serving with 8./JG 2 when he claimed a B-17 bomber on 27 March 1944 but was shot down and wounded in Bf 109 G-5 (W.Nr. 110 356) over La Chapelle Basse Mer. Leutnant Stratmann was killed in aerial combat on 21 October 1944 while serving with 4./JG 2. Posthumously he was promoted to Oberleutnant. His total of 29 victories included four four-engined bombers. He had been awarded the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold.

For what little it is worth, I hope that this helps out somewhat.

Horrido!

Leo

Re: JG2 Personnel

I've listed Stratmann as bailed out and WIA near Dernbach in combat with P-47. His a/c was Fw 190 A-8 Werknr. 734 388.

Heuser
