Johannes Seifert
Greetings: As I didn't draw any bites on my "Mueller" inquiry, I thought I'd try another kind of obscure question relating to Bf110 pilots. Johannes Seifert,KIA with II/JG26 on 25.11.43(57 Vic.) was apparently a Zerstorer pilot during the Polish campaign, before tranferring to S/E fighters with JG26. Eimannsbergers book on I(laterV)/LG1 has crew lists for the campaign, but he is not listed there( but, then again, neither are Laufs and Hermann, who are reported to have flown in I/LG1). Of the 3 Zerstorergruppen involved, Does anyone know which unit he may have flown with? Any comments appreciated. Cheers Dean

Re: Johannes Seifert
Hi,
Peter Laufs even reported one victory on the 01.09.39 and was with 2(Z)/LG1 as well as Kurt Hermann. Please tell us from what source you took information that Seifert took part on PC? Regards Robert |

Re: Johannes Seifert
Hi Robert, nice to hear from you. The site I got this from is www.luftwaffe.cz/seifert.html. I've always been curious as well about Hermannn and Laufs, who are both credited with Victories with I/LG1 in the Polish campaign, and then, if my Intel. is correct, went to Z/KG30, and subsequently to intruder Ops. with NJG2. Again, any help on any of these names most welcome. Thanks Dean.

Re: Johannes Seifert

The info we have is ambiguous on this point. Here is all we have on this guy: SEIFERT, Johannes. (Date of Birth: 06.10.15 in Pinneberg/Holstein). I./JG 26 (to 31.05.43). 01.01.42 Kdr. I./JG 26 (to at least 31.12.42). 25.02.42 Hptm., awarded DKG, I./JG 26. 07.06.42 Hptm., awarded Ritterkreuz, Kdr. I./JG 26. 06.43 trf to the Führerreserve (to 09.43). 01.06.43 Major, appt to a position on the staff of the German mission to Bulgaria. 09.09.43 Obstlt., appt Kdr. II./JG 26 (to 25.11.43). 25.11.43 KIA – collided with a P-38 Lightning that he had just shot down near Bethune. (n.d.) posthumously promo to Obstlt. Re: Johannes Seifert
Well I will say that only possibility would be I/ZG1 (if Bf110 unit) and II/ZG1 (if Bf109 unit).

Re: Johannes Seifert
Doug: Thanks for your input. At least this gives me his start date with JG26. Robert, you have a point about II/ZG1 ( Jgr101).I was thinking purely Bf110. Of course, several "zerstorer" units were still flying Bf109's at that time. Cheers. Dean.

Re: Johannes Seifert
Hi,
I just mentioned two Luftwaffe fighter units (ZG) with personnel rosters far to be completed - It`s only my guess. Robert |

Re: Johannes Seifert
I believe that the info on Seifert's Zerstörer connection probably originated from Obermeier's Die Ritterkreuzträger der Luftwaffe in which is stated that Seifert took part in the Polish Campaign as a Zerstörer pilot (...nahm als Zerstörerflieger am Polenfeldzug teil...) unfortunately without further elaboration.

Re: Johannes Seifert
A bit necropost, but a little more info:
Johannes Seifert (Jagdflieger) is not the same pilot as Kurt Seifert (Zerstorerflieger). Kurt Seifert was a pilot and Oblt. in 4./ZG26 in early 1942, and when 4./ZG26 became 4./ZG2 he was appt. its StaKa. Around may 1942, he went to StaKa 2./ZG1 only to be shot down on 03.06.42 o Eastern Front. If Kurt Seifert is meant to have combat action during PC, so he must be with I./ZG2 (and later went to ZG26 in autumn 1940 with ZG2's disbandment).
