Re: Mustang FB-138 crashlanding

Mustang belly landed in Saeftinghe after being hit by AAA near Antwerp.
Mission was to guide Halifaxes back home but pilot a/c was separated from flight. Losing coolant engine overheated.
Pilot ok but muddy and next day allready in Brussels.

Gents,
The village of Saeftinghe is in Belgium. NIMH lists him E of Hulst what may have been the area "Verdronken land van Saeftinghe" what's in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen in the Dutch province Zeeland.
Henk.

Henk.
Henk can you indicate where that village Saeftinghe in Belgium is located?

Hulst of course is (and never was) not in Belgium. But as the list of the NIMH claims the location "East of Hulst".... then confusion may be the consequence.

Tommy Thomson landed his FB136 DV-X Ten Km's due North East of Hulst,
on a strip of muddy soil, outside of the dikes, in the wetlands of the river Scheldt, locally known as "Verdronken Land van Saeftinghe" (drowned land
because the village was given back to the sea.)
Tommy by the way radioed his unit that he was OK but they were not sure whether he was in Allied or Enemy territory and left him on his own, neither did he know!
Today we should not have any confusion about the location or even the country where this took place.
