Underwater Ju-52 pictures from Hartvikvatn, Norway.

Hi guys. This post after a prompt, though I may have posted them in the old forum.

These are pictures taken of the only comfirmed remaining Nachrichtfunk Ju-52 that lies in Hartvikvatn near Narvik in Northern Norway.
Being one of the 11 '52's that landed on the lake in the April days of 1940 it sunk through the thawing ice to be left along with 10 others. IIRC 8 of the Junkers have been salvaged.
In the topside pictures you can still see the holes for the wooden antennaes on this special communications-junker..
The pics were taken with a Canon S50 in ambient light hence the somewhat lacking clarity. (Though not that bad vis compared to other freshwater sites )

Enjoy,

Kyrre

Re: Underwater Ju-52 pictures from Hartvikvatn, Norway.

Thanks Knut, I shall try

(By the way, Knut, you might be the one to ask. We were discussing a bit of Norwegian Mosquito action and I thought I read about the only time Norwegians attacked Norwegian soil during WW2 was when a 333 Sqn Mossie bombed the Flåm railroad. Do you remember when and who? A reply on the other side is appreciated)

Kyrre

Hi,

Superb pictures, pity I didn't complete my scuba training (couldn't equalise pressure in ears from 2 metres down!) otherwise I could have joined you!

Regards

David

The wreck lies with the tail buried in an estuary in Lake Hartvik and the bottom of the plane is at about 10 meters...
Temperature? Around 12-14C in the summer I guess. In the winter you'd have to saw your way through 1 meter of ice...
