Re: JU88 loss over Manchester 4/5 May 1945

Thanks for posting edNorth , the JU88 took off at 0515( local time ) from Grove and flew in a westerly direction over the North Sea and passing over Middlesborough and then flew across England , finally over Liverpool and across the Irish Sea where the JU88 landed in Gormanston Military Camp . The date of this incident was May 5 , 1945 .
edNorth , is it possible that the four JU88 G-6 that you have in your notes are from NJG/3 and not KG66 ? The depature dates are the same for both incidents !
On a similar note a JU88 G-6 Wrk nr. 621800 "4R+LR" of III./NJG2 flew from Leck to Porto on 2 May 1945 with a crew of two , these guys did not wait for the final surrender !

Re: JU88 loss over Manchester 4/5 May 1945

Martin: Thanks for your correction, date and time. Much appreciated.

Schnellmayer: I do not have further data on the four Ju 88 G-6s. I think they are confirmed actually landing at Sola. The one to Porto, I have seen given as "G-7a" (sic) 521600 (621600?) on 01.05.45 - but 4R+IR (Oblt. Walter Briegleb) in ARS website KLPA listings.

Seems lot´s of further research is needed on these "last days" Luftwaffe flights.

Re: JU88 loss over Manchester 4/5 May 1945

Ed, the details I have on the JU88 that flew to Porto are , JU88G-6 Wrk nr.621800 , crew members , Klaus Moller and Joseph Allram .They departed Leck at 3.20 on 2.5.45
I guess in the final days of the war it was every man for himself and keeping records were not a high priority !
