Rudorffer's 190

All

Does any one know if his 190 had the JG 54 devil motif on the port cowling when he was based at Immola?

TIA
Dave

Rudorffer's Fw 190

Hello Dave

At the risk of making a fool of myself I must admit that I am not aware of II./JG 54 ever using a devil motif on its aircraft. I do know of the devil's head badge of 9./JG 54 introduced by Bob and the devil riding a pitchfork insignia of 2./JG 54 as seen on the fighter flown by Dortenmann on the Invasion Front but nothing about II./JG 54. At any rate by the time period in question unit markings within JG 54, with the exception of the III. Gruppe, were quite rare and I would think that his fighter most likely did not have any. If any one can add to or correct this it would be most welcome.

Horrido!

Leo

Hi Leo

I tend to think you are right. Unfortunately the only shots I have seen of his aircraft in Finland show the starboard side.

regards
Dave

Hi Dave

I have seen various photographs of the fighters of II./JG 54 while serving in Finland as part of Gefechtsverband Kuhlmey and no unit badges or insignias appear on any of these quite anonymous aircraft. Of course, one can never be 100% certain but I believe that the consensus of opinion would be that these fighters did not have any such markings.

Horrido!

Leo
