3rd Feb. 1940. KG30

At 0912hrs on 3rd Feb.1940, two aircraft (probably Ju.88s belonging to KG30) bombed and sank the British minesweeper HMS Sphinx 15 miles north of Kinnaird Head, Scotland. One of the attackers' crewmen was a Feldwebel Breithaupt. Does anyone have information about these attackers or know where I might obtain such? Bill Norman (www.billnorman.co.uk)

Re: 3rd Feb. 1940. KG30

Hi,

I have his FB:
time of the mission 07.52-14.40 Moray Firth. The second Ju 88 - that of Hptm. Rosenthal CO of 2./KG30 - had been brought down by naval AA guns, 4 POWs.

Regards

Robert

Fw Hans Breithaupt was the BO to Lt Rudi Reisiger of 2/KG 30; I believe one other crew member was Fw Herbert Czischke. The FB says very little. Breithaupt was retrained as a pilot, ended the war on night fighters, was in Lufthansa after the war and died a few years back. I have a photo of the 3 crew listed above

Further to the above, does anyone know the full name of one Oblt. v. S, who was flying with KG30 at this time?

Re: 3rd Feb. 1940. KG30

My mistake. I have in a number of sources which say Oblt Fridjof von Sichardt, Frittjof von Sichart, Frithjof von Sichart which was amended to Sichartshoff.

Matti: Also note on the NVM above his name is handwritten Sichart which would make it Sichart von Sichartshoff!!
