Re: Okkajärvi + Kutajärvi

All the aircraft I mentioned were strictly operated and owned by Luftwaffe. Finnish Air Force had nothing to do with them. The "Finnish" GA+DO was flown by kapt (Olt) Erkki Jauri and all flights were far from Olkkajärvi in East and Southeast Finland.

When Luftwaffe left Finland in Autumn 1944, they left no Ar 196 behind.

Please note, that Luftwaffe operated above 65 degrees latitude and Finnish Air Force below it. Therefore Finnish seeplanes visited locations above that 65 degrees line only very occasionally during rescue or agent dropping operations. They had no fixed base there.

Re: Okkajärvi + Kutajärvi

According to Heinonen's Thulinista Hornetiin, in early Sept. 44 local commanders made a deal so that the Finns allowed Germans to flew off one He-115C and one Ar 196A (A3+BC) and LW left one He-115C and one Ar 196A (A3+AC) to the Finns. The Germans reported those two a/c left behind as destroyed and FAF used them a while and then handed them to SU as stipulated in the armistice treaty. A3+AC was handed over on 16 March 45

Matti

NH+AM was Ar 199V-1 c/n 3671
KK+BX was also an Ar 199

Sorry to "nitpick"

Regards

Tony

Re: Okkajärvi + Kutajärvi

Thanks Tony, very welcome corrections. My info comes from a Finnish air surveillance unit, which received notification of German flights from Luftwaffe base via telephone. Therefore the logbooks have too many errors, which gradually can (at least partly) be corrected by observant researchers.
