3./KG40, Iceland, 5 Aug.1943

Fw200C-4 Condor of 3./KG40 was shot down by two P-38 Lightnings off Iceland on 5 August 1943. The P-38's are believed to have belonged to 50 Fighter Sqdn/14 Fighter Group USAAF. Anyone got any info on this incident that they are willing to share? AI(k) Report No. 346/1943 might be relevant.

The P-38F's were flown by 1.Lt Richard M. Holly and 1.Lt William E. Bethea from 50 FS but it was no longer part of 14 FG but of 342 Composite Group.

IIRC there is a USAAF report on this combat, and a copy resides at the USAF HRA at Mawell AFB. I saw but do not hink I copied it.

Best Regards,

Artie Bob

Chris, so that's the end of that, then. Thanks for the info.
Laurent, yes, it appeared in the Nov. 1997 issue.
