Uffz. Herick, wounded, SE of Heidelberg. His first name is unknown to me. The loss report does not mention him parachuting, although the aircraft was a 100% write-off.

Re: Search Name of Pilot, FW190 D-9, III./JG2

Hello Gents,

on 25 February 1945, Uffz. Herick from 9./JG 2 managed to crash land his Fw 190 D-9 W.Nr. 600 387 after being shot down by enemy ground fire, south-east of Heidelberg. He was wounded in the process. So no bailing out from this machine....

Cheers
Marc

Re: Search Name of Pilot, FW190 D-9, III./JG2

Klaus,

After an extensive check in all recorded Fw 190 D-9 losses occurred on all February and March 1945 Sundays (all told 42 machines lost with a staggering record of 24 D-9's lost on the sole Sunday 25 February!), there is only one pilot which successfully bailed out from a stricken Fw 190 D-9 on any of those Sundays:

It is Oblt. Werner Zech, from 14./JG 26, flying W.Nr. 211 028, "Schwarze 8". He was shot down Sunday 18 March by Capt. Gerard S. Neumarhorst, flying a P. 51 of 339 FG/ 503 FS. Place is given as Ellinghausen, near Twistringen, in Niedersachsen. This of course is far off Heidelberg...

The only Heidelberg area recorded action for a Sunday happened on 25 February 1945. Oblt. Werner Rossbach from 9./JG 2 went missing flying Fw 190 D-9 W.Nr. 600 766; he was shot down by P-38 and P-51 flying escort for the 8th. Air Force bombers which bombed Aschaffenburg that day. His plane crashed in the Odenwald area, near Heidelberg, but he was never found.

Not much of a conclusive research, I'm afraid, but that's where published records leads us regarding your question...

Hope this helps
Marc

Hi.

Loss record for 600387:

http://www.aviationhistory.no/ref_db...?lossid=101472

With regards to the other D-9 Klaus is looking for, Obltn. Rossbach would be the obvious solution.

Even if he was not found or rejoined his unit in the days after the crash he could still be the pilot with the leg injury.

Regards,
Andreas B
