Crashed He177 and strange find
Hello ,
Redhill's Wing Museum will displayed soon remains of Werner Neuenfeldt 's He177 A-5 # 550221 , 6/KG40 , lost in Normandy on 12/13 June 1944 . Oddly a gas mask was found while cleaning parts , and the question is : what for ? Was it common to have these aboard ? Zorglub |

To protect against carbon monoxide poisoning when the engines inevitably burst into flames. (Joke)

Re: Crashed He177 and strange find
I don´t think its the owners name - April - simply the month, the filter was changed or has to be changed.

Re: Crashed He177 and strange find
The gasmask canister has charcoal inside (ineffective against CO) and has an effectiveness limited.
Once again, digs reveal much more questions than replies... ClinA-78 Salut to the Hunt's brothers |

Re: Crashed He177 and strange find
These have not uncommonly been found in Luftwaffe crashes in the UK; Junkers 87 and Me 109 being examples that come to mind. Standard personal kit for all German service personnel, and if they happened to have their kit on board then not surprising.
