Faehnrich Gerhard Schaefer II/KG26
Hi,
I am searching for further information regarding the loss of Gerhard Schaefer of II/KG26 who I have listed as missing in action on the 21.04.45 in the North sea. I believe Gerhard was born on the 14.93.1924 in Ebsdorf. Any further details regarding this loss would be really appreciated. Regards, Melvin (Aircrew Remembrance Society) - Nothing to do with Aircrew Remembered website! |

Re: Faehnrich Gerhard Schaefer II/KG26
Hello Melvin,
This is what I find in "Die Spur des Löwen": Lt. Gerhard Schäfer, Uffz. Otto Bauer, Fw. Hubert Hoppe, Ogefr. Richard Gattner. They were lost in a Ju 88, no Kennzeichen or Wnr. stated., in Pl.Qu.3807/05 Ost. There is also a dramatic picture of a fierce explosion when one of the Ju 88 crashed into the North-Sea after being shot down by the Mosquito's. Two of them are flying over the crash site. Kind Regards, Dirk |

Re: Faehnrich Gerhard Schaefer II/KG26
Many Thanks Kjell & Dirk, very interesting story indeed! I will have to try and get hold of this book. Kjell, I have sent you a picture of Gerhard Schaefer to your e-mail address, maybe you can add it to your excellent website.
