Lt Johannes Hoss - 1.(F)/22

Hello,

familymembers of Lt. Hoss would like to get some more details about him, his aircraft and crew. The aircraft, a Ju 88 crashed 4. October 1943 - Crewmembers were: Fw Blasig, Uffz Krieger and Uffz Fischer.

1943-10-04, 1.(F)/22, Ju 88D-1, (88)1682, 4N+EH, 230 km westlich Bodö, Notlandung auf See nach Luftkampf mit Wildcat. Bruch 100 %.
Flugzeugführer Lt Hoß, Johannes, vermißt
Beobachter Fw Blasig, Otto, vermißt
Bordfunker Uffz Krieger, Friedrich, vermißt
Bordschütze Uffz Fischer, Alfons, vermißt

thanks for the details. One Question. I got a letter from the commander of Hoss. There he was talking about aircraft carrier, where the aircraft started from. Do you know anything about this?

Don't know anything about that, but it seems plausible that the Wildcat was from a US aircraft carrier. Location of the loss was so far from UK and Island, that only a carrier seems to be a possible starting point.

Just a guess after googeling, the Wildcat (Martlet in UK) might hava come from HMS Searcher?

This has map of where He 115 and Ju 88 were downed. Ju 88 is on extreme left edge of map. This webpages also have details of two SBD and one TBM missing, and one F4F crashed overboard, pilot saved.
