2 JG 302

I'm looking for some assistance in identifying some locations for 2 JG 302 in or around the July 1944 time frame.
I've done some googling, I see where JG 302 was stationed at Götzendorf - is this Germany or Austria (google maps shows two citied by this name)

I'm interested in the a/c of Uffz Karl Heinz Bamberg, lost 7/7/44 @ Piatova- is this Hungary or Czech Republic??

Thank you for your assistance and time

Tom

Re: 2 JG 302

Hello,
According to the book "Jagdgeschwader 301/302 Wilde Sau"by Willy Reschke,
Uffz Bamberg was lost at Malacky, Slovakia. (page 108)

Re: 2 JG 302

Piatova os a small settlement in Western Slovakia, near Sobotiste.
I have been at the crash site, and comparison with crash photos made the localisation very exact.
Whats your interest in this particullar loss?

Re: 2 JG 302

Hello Mr. Kassak,
I'd like to build my next G-6 model marked as K.H. Bamberg's a/c. I've ordered the JG301/302 book, if you have any details of his shootdown, I'd be very interested in hearing them.

Thank you for your reply, Slovakia would have been Czech at that time?? I'd like to find it on google maps

Tom

Hi Tom,

Slovakia would have been Slovakia that time. Post war it was Czechoslovakia, and since 1993 it is again Slovakia...
