Re: 2/606 Loss off Ireland 11 Oct 40
Hallo Chris,
Thanks for that information. Fascinating detail regarding Heine and his subsequent war career (KIA 1943 I think !) and now we also have his first name. Can anyone please indicate a map location for that grid reference ? Is it possible that should be SJ0684 ? To avoid turning the related thread on the Allied forum into a totally Luftwaffe one I will make these comments here concerning Dornier 17 '7T+HL' which was lost on 9 October 1940. Are there NMVs (?) for the crew of '7T+HL' (to confirm the date of their loss) ? I have no knowledge of this side of Luftwaffe research. There is a handwritten note ('Tote') added in at a later date to the original on the IWM copy of the microfilm beside the names of Harbou, Langer and Rubesam. This seems to indicate the bodies of these 3 crewmen were recovered, but this now seems to be in error. Any comments or suggestions welcome. Regards, Martin. |

Yes 1943 and K Report definitely says VJ. As to 7T+HL, it took off between 1658-1707 hrs with 16 others to attack Crewe & Speke. One ac lost & 2 returned early with tech problems so definitely lost evening of 9 Oct

Thanks Chris,
Looks like a consolidated loss report by the Gruppe on the 11th. Regards, Martin. |

von Harbou, Langer and Rübesam were declared dead and therefore the handwritten note. The bodies were never found, as far as I know.

Matti,
Thanks for that information. Up to this I had believed in error that if 'Tote' was entered afterwards against a name it meant a body had been recovered. Regards, Martin. |

Just out of interest I have contact with the family of Walter Hoppmann and have some very nice photos of him . He was a naval man and not Luftwaffe. I have also copies of his EK award documents which came from the family .
