Re: HMS Wren

James - Sloop HMS Wren? If we are talking about same ship - it was not sunk. It was attached to a Hunter - Killer Escort Group ( Capt. Johnny Walker, Commander ) and commanded by Lt. Commander Aubrey.

Re: HMS Wren

Hello,

James is writing about HMS Wren, da WWI-Typ destroyer, sunk by german bombers while escorting minesweepers (look for some data at http://uboat.net/allies/warships/ship/4253.html). In the same attack the destroyer Montrose is damaged.

From a google search I got He-111 of KG.53 as responsible for this attack. Can someone confirm this data?

Greetings

Darius

Re: HMS Wren

The Situation Report issued by the Luftwaffe Fuehrungsstab IC reported an attack on a convoy 25 km SSE of Lowestoft in 2 waves. 1550 hrs, 1 4000 T merchant ship hit by 500 kg bomb; 1755 hrs, destroyer sunk, destroyer damaged by 250 & 500 kg bomb. It mentions another series of attacks on Dover at 1530 and 1735 hrs during which an auxiliary cruiser was hit by a 250 kg bomb and exploded and off Dover at 1735 and 1845 hrs during which another destroyer was sunk. I would guess the first is the Wren, the second Codrington
