Mosquito MM195 Missing / 128 Sqn. RAF

Gentlemen,

one more Mossie from the last November days 1944: MM195, coded "A" took off November 28, 1944 @ 17:25 with target Nürnberg. She failed to return.

Crew:
  • W/O Edgar, Frank
  • Sgt. Murphy, J. H. M.
Aircraft and crew are still marked "missing".

Questions: I was made aware that there is a German "note" that mentions a Mosquito shot down on November 28, 1944 at 21:35. Location is "Mayen/Eifel". There are two references to documents: J2431 and KE9843.

Unfortunately, AIR14/3412 for that night does not plot die Mossies but only the later phase of the attacks on the Rhineland. But Mayen is definitely a logical area when en-route to Nürnberg.

Does anyone have more information and/or copies of the referenced documents?

Andreas

Hi Andreas,

Mayen/Eifel refers to Mosquito PZ334 on 28./29.10.1944. Crashed in Mayen close to the cemetery.

Regards

Alexander

Erdinger or Paulaner beer?

There is a more or less official war diary for the area between the Rhine and Mayen available. (Dr. Schnatz cites this source as "Chronik Wind" is his work about aerial warfare in the Koblenz area.) The crash of PZ334 is mentioned there, but the cause of this loss is quite unclear (but most probably due to Flak).

Cheers,

Alexander
