Do 335 A-10, A-11 or A-12?
Hello,
Different publications name the Do 335 two seat trainer aircraft as A-10, A-11 or A-12 variant. Which of these is correct and what exactly was their difference? Unfortunately, I don't have access to wartime documents of the Do 335 that would answer my question. Roger |

This link suggests some engine differences between A-10 and A-12 aircraft.

Re: Do 335 A-10, A-11 or A-12?
Hello,
this is what i know about the difference beetween A-10/A-12: A-10 was built from a A-0 preserial cell Do 335 V11 CP+UL 2x DB 603 A-2 Do 335 V12 CP+UM 2x DB 603 A-2 They were rebuilt by Dornier and went to Rechlin. A-12 was built from a A-1 serial cell I don´t know the type A-11. Source:Die deutsche Luftrüstung 1933-1945 Heinz J. Nowarra Herzliche Grüsse aus Oberschwaben, Wolfgang |

Re: Do 335 A-10, A-11 or A-12?
Hello!
Only one Do 335 was built with Jumo 213. Do 335 V7 CP+UG 2x Jumo 213 This machine was delivered to Junkers as flying engine tester. CP+UG was destroyed in Dessau by an allied bomb attack. Herzliche Grüsse aus Oberschwaben, Wolfgang |

Re: Do 335 A-10, A-11 or A-12?
Thank you all for the information you provided. Apparently, there are some conflicting sources.
Smith/Creek mention the Industrie Lieferplan 226/2 dated 22 September 1944 on p.53 in their Do 335 book: A-10: based on the A-1, built at Dornier Löwenthal A-11: based on the A-1, but built by the Luther Werke in Braunschweig A-12: based on the B-6, built by the Luther Werke A-13: based on the B-4, built by the Luther Werke On p.64 they mention a TLR document dated 1 November 1944 that confirms that the A-10 were to be built at Löwenthal, while the A-11 and A-12 were to be built by the Luther Werke. On p.86 they show an extract from the Lieferplan dated 15 November 1944: A-11: conversion of the A-1 with DB 603 E/G, Luther Werke A-12: conversion of the B-6 with DB 603 G, Luther Werke A-13: conversion of the B-4 with DB 603 L, Luther Werke The completed trainer Do 335 were probably all conversions from A-0 aircraft that were fitted with the DB 603 and were most likely converted at Oberpfaffenhofen (maybe except the first 2, V11 and V12). They were most likely A-10 subtypes. But the Lieferplan 22 Sep 1944 stated that they were conversions from A-1 and built at Löwenthal. If we assume that Lieferplan from September was outdated already by winter 1944 in terms of designations of subtypes, there is still a conflict with the information based on the RLM Flugzeug-Programm Nr. 227 from 15 December 1944 (provided by Seaplanes above), which states that the A-10 was fitted with 2 x 603 E. Quite confusing. I assume that designations for subtypes changed from 1944 to 1945 and some documents related to planned aircraft, while others to actually built aircraft. Regards, Roger |
