Dog Fight July 25, 1943 North of Hamburg
Does anyone know details of a dog fight July 25, 1943? My mother was walking north heading for Denmark and she and a friend witnessed it and someone was shot down but they don't know even if it was a German plane or Allied that went down. Any idea of Abschuss or Allied Victory that date? It was during the day of July 25th.

Welcome,
On 25 July 1943, the 8th Air Force attacked Hamburg and Kiel. At this time the Allied fighters could not reach the area, and only B-17s flew during this operation. So if your mother saw a fighter being shot down, it was a German one. If it was a bomber it was an American one. There were several losses on both sides, and a more precise location will be needed to identify it.
