Aluminum Panel from Schnaufer's Me110 sold for 90000 GBP!!!???
Now...this does not make sense to me...
The COMPLETE right side fin sits in a museum in the UK...which is VERY nice... however...another "right side fin - this being ONLY the outer skin, and not the complete stabilizer, went on auction in the UK...and over the weekend it sold for 90000 GBP! It looked VERY NICE...and had all of his victories painted on it. BUT... He was not flying this Me110 at the time that it crashed...and on top, there are photos of the time period showing him with his 121 victory Me110...and the fin is obviously quite different. I suspect this panel was from an Me110 with VERY LITTLE combat history with him flying it. He certainly did not get those 121 victories in the Me110 that this panel is from. So in the end...someone paid 90000 GBP for an aluminum skin with 121 victories...with no real history? I think someone has more dollars than sense. Auction estimate was 20000 GBP...which I thought was already too high... Below is the museum example...and then the panel that went on auction. This one was discussed previously, and determined to be genuine. Still a pretty crazy price.

I have no problem with it being a genuine panel...just flabbergasted that someone would pay 90000 GBP for a skin from an Me110 that Schnzufer most likely had very little time in...and the bird itself clearly not claming many (if any at all) of the victories painted.
Seems like insanity to me... |

The 90,000 GBP panel is from the aircraft Schnaufer normally flew. It was wrecked/crash landed by another pilot. The fin in the RAF Museum is from an aircraft that Schnaufer rarely flew. It was painted up at the end of the war to show his accomplishments before surrender. Pictures of the wrecked aircraft he normally flew are in this book, which is where the 90,000 GBP panel is from.. ![]() Aircraft painted up for surrender, ![]() |

That's pretty cheap considering Schnaufer isn't flying anymore.

Dear Stephen,
You have an odd sense of cheap. Regards, Richard |

Re: Aluminum Panel from Schnaufer's Me110 sold for 90000 GBP!!!???
t just means that some people have too much money to spend and do not know what to do with them? A few years ago the situation was the same on E-bay with pictures. One of the buyers had clearly too much of money to release (some rich financier?) and very strongly overestimated the value of photographs on the stock buying them en masse. The prices were very, very creasy then (like on Me 109 or Me 109). The financial crisis put an end to it. Prices have just fallen. On this auction just appeared too much money at the disposal of the few. The price is a totally speculative and has nothing in common with the classic supply and demand. This is far, far away out of S&D. regards, mw
