Seeking photos and code confirmations for He111 down during the WC
Hello,
This photo recently sold on eBay with notes about location and date. According to the EoE LW Loss Listing based upon this information, this may well be: "14 May 1940 Western Front Amend: 2./KG27 Heinkel He111P-2. Engaged by No.85 and No.87 Squadron Hurricanes over Tienen and belly-landed at ‘Campagne du Tierse’ west of Vissoul, between Lamontzée and Ville-en-Hesbaye, (Belgium) 9.30 a.m. BM Fw Rudolf Kleff killed, FF Fw Wilhelm Lütje and BF Obergefr Gregor Wulf both slightly wounded, BO Lt Joachim Müller believed unhurt. Aircraft 1G+EK 100% write-off." In checking our own and other cooperating photo sources, we've not found other photos of this one, which may show a full code, and possibly any unit insignia. Has anyone other photos of this a/c or information that confirms this identification? http://ihra.smugmug.com/photos/i-4BV...-4BVGd7m-L.jpg |

Re: Seeking photos and code confirmations for He111 down during the WC
Hi Larry,
I have this loss as: 2./KG27 Heinkel He111P-2. Shot down by S/C Pizon, S/Lt Lansoy and S/C Boutier of GC III/2 south of Namur and crash-landed at ‘Campagne du Tierse’ between Lamontzée and Ville-en-Hesbaye 4.30 p.m. BM Fw Rudolf Kleff killed. FF Fw Wilhelm Lütje and BF Obergefr Gregor Wulf slightly wounded. BO Lt Joachim Müller believed unhurt. Aircraft 1G+EK a 100% write-off. There is a picture in a (French-language) Belgian book showing this aircraft, confirming the EK code. Regards, Pieter |

Pieter,
Thanx. Can you or anyone else provide a source or scan of the photo in the Belgian book that confirms this code as 1G+EK? |

Re: Seeking photos and code confirmations for He111 down during the WC
Update,
Another FL photo mystery is resolved. Pieter has provided a copy of the photo from this book, confirming that this is the loss indicated in the posts above. This aircraft apparently carried no unit insignia, at least on the starboard nose. The source is: "“Mai 40 – Septembre 44” P.335, by Hubert Laby, privately published in 2005. According to Pieter, "This book is about the ground battles around Waremme, Tongeren and Hannut, but contains a few aircraft pictures." If anyone knows of any other photos of this a/c, including showing the port side, please let me know. It sat at the original landing site for several months before it was salvage, so there are likely other photos of it out there. Thanx to Pieter. |
