Re: Erkennungsmarke 51518
Hi Chris,
In 1940, 51518 was used by 2/JG1, but as you will know, these numbers were changed from time to time, for intelligence reasons. Joe. |

Re: Erkennungsmarke 51518
Odd-on checking I have Oblt Hans-Folkert Rosenboom of 9/JG 27 as 51518/4 but on the loss records as 3 Staffel/JG 1, which would therefore accord with 9/JG 27. The chap I am interested in was 51518/18 so probably joined I/JG 1/III/JG 27 in 1940

Re: Erkennungsmarke 51518
Loss return for Fw Schulz and Gef. Glockner of 9/JG 27 on 18.9.40 gives both as 51518.

Re: Erkennungsmarke 51518
Chris- Sorry but I only have the NVM for Schulz and Glockner, this is because many years ago I was given the Radio/First Aid panel from Glockner's 109. It was given to me by a friend of my Father who had commanded the Royal Marine section that had shot the 109 down with a Bren Gun.
From what I gather Glockner had been attacked by P/O Bennions over Maidstone and with his aircraft damaged he dived for the coast. As he overflew the marines position they opened up with the Bren ,Glockner's engine cut and he crashed landed. I was in contact with Glockner in the 1980's and all he was aware of was the attack by the Spitfire, Regards Brian |
