Soviet WWII bi plane CCCP

An ebay seller advertising the attached shot, was wondering if this
is one of the Polikarpov series type given the unusual engine cowling
and if this specific type carrying CCCP was on VVS inventory . The acft
was captured in 1941 presumably somewhere in Southern Ukraine

No, it is one of the PWS-26s that were captured by the Soviet forces in Poland in 1939.

Re: Soviet WWII bi plane CCCP

Full number is CCC-C235 from Osoaviachim, captured in end of June/July 1941 by German in KOVO Rsuska-Zenska. It is civil plane.

There are several photo of it. One of them, from different direction is in my book "Powietrzny pogrom ZSSR, 22.06.41". There are printed too the next photo of other PWS-26 captured in Stanislavov, from 12. IAP.

There were at least 16 PWS-26 and 1 RWD-8 in Soviet military service in KOVO in June 1941, the next were in civil aviation service, as this one.

Regards,
mw

Scroll to the end and you will see this second PWS-26 behaind I-15bis

Re: Soviet WWII bi plane CCCP

Regarding your book, are you saying that the PWS-26's were captured at 12 IAP
Boutchev of 64 SAD on June 22, 1941 ? If so why they had civil registration rather
military and where the other photos of the type can be seen ? Second Q, what is the
the translation at the page 54 as into the R-10 of 46 OAE which in fact was called
(46 ошаэ / 46 OSCHAE) SQD wihch at that date was based in Belarus before
transferred to Odessa Tschubaevka ? The other photos on my collection 12 IAP related depicting
the same compounds seen on above Ebay shot . At what exact date the Reman/ Romanian
Armies entered Boutchev airfield ? According Romanian Army charts the area was occupied
on July 2- 6th. Attchments : Boutchev airfield and commander of 12 IAP Timofeev .

46 OSCHAE / 46 ошаэ (46 Otdelynaya Sturmovaya Aviazionya Escadrilia )

Re: Soviet WWII bi plane CCCP

I do not ever said that it was in Bouschew, but it is photo from hangar in Stanisławów, main airfield for 12. IAP before 22.06. In the front is old, not already used by 12. IAP an I-15bis.

The 12. IAP had 2 PWS-26s, one of them was captured in June or begining July 1941 (?) by German and Hungarian troops in Stanisławów.

This plane was not in civil service, it is impossible. Civil registration had planes used by only by civil organisation as Osoaviachim.

This CCCP-C235 on PWS-26 means exactly civil, not military organisation.

In military units in KOVO were at least 16 PWS-26 plus 1 RWD-8 (Polish palanes captured by Sovietes in IX.39).

46. ORAE, means an independen reccon. air unit of Pinska Vojenna Flotilla (such squadron in English standards - 16 planes R-10, attached to the river navy in Pińsk). After June 1941 46. ORAE, was send for rearming and got Ił-2s, and new name 46. OSzAE. It began fight as a assulut unit (squadron) in Black See Aviation near Odessa, if I am right remeber? This is other story.

R-10 and Il-2 this is total different planes.

regards,
mw
