IV/JG77 on 1st and 2nd July 1941

Hi guys

I've seen it written that pilots of IV/JG77 claimed 5 Russian aircraft shot down near Petsamo on 1 July 1941, and 4 more next day.

Any substance in this?

Cheers
Brian

Re: IV/JG77 on 1st and 2nd July 1941

Hello Brian
at that time the Finnish AF liaison officer at the LW HQ at Kirkenäs gave very limitted info on fighter activity he concentrated almost totally on bombing ops. So nothing definitely but according to him the LW planes operating over the most northern part of the Eastern Front had by 4 Jul 41 shot down 45 enemy planes (+7 probables) and destroyed on ground circa 130. During that time the claims of German fighter and Zeströrer pilots operating up north were generally fairly accurate but the ground claim was rather badly inflated.

Hello again Brian
nothing in Hafsten et al "Flyalarm" and Valtonen in his "Luftwaffen pohjoinen sivusta" gives the same info as in the report of the Finnish AF liaison officer.
