Re: Name of a village near Rschew
The writing was on the back of a photo of a belly landed Ju 88. Attached is the photo concerned. Some other photos of the same aircraft have been seen with the landscape covered with a thick layer of snow. Most likely this Ju 88 belly landed early 1942.
Attached is a scan of the back of a second photo of the same a/c. Can anyone read what it says there? Regards, Rudi. Last edited by RudiS; 16th July 2018 at 19:35. |

Re: Name of a village near Rschew
Open terrain, rolling hills, no tree line in sight and the aircraft sitting on the ground with no snow...the region around Rzhev was covered in snow from November 1941 to April 1942 and largely forested. Multiple photos, but is there an ID on the aircraft ?
Without more info on the aircraft and assuming it is in open space near Rzhev my guess it is near Korobino, to the SE of Rzhev, and 6 km south of Zubtsov. This place was in German hands until the end of July 1942. Oquaig |

Re: Name of a village near Rschew
Hi oquaig,
The Ju 88 concerned is B3+AP of 6./KG54. Attached is a photo of the a/c in snow covered area. Regards, Rudi. Last edited by RudiS; 16th July 2018 at 19:35. |

Re: Name of a village near Rschew
Unfortunately, I have only a very fragmented loss list for KG 54. Maybe some one else out there can fill in the blanks for us. At best all I can say is that this aircraft was brought down some time in the late winter-early spring of 1942. oquaig
