Ju 52...what unit?

Hello again,

It seems to me that every time I find out something, ten new questions comes to live about this A/C.
I am trying to find out what unit this Ju 52 belonged to.
It looks like the code is 9? + KK with a black number 10 on the tail.

Is it possible that any of you can help me with this puzzle?

Thanks in advance,

Christian

Hope it helps, Mihai

Re: Ju 52...what unit?

Christian, Mihai,
I wouldn't be 100% sure on this.
But it all depends on the period.
At least during the start of the Western Campaign the coding of 2./KGrzbV.9 was completely different!
All black codes (so no individual letter outlined in white), small size coding (smaller than the horizontal bars of the Balkenkreuz) and no tail numbers. Plus the unit emblem on the nose (a winged angel with a suit case, in white).
Unless this was a replacement aircraft after the heavy losses in Holland, with a new (and indeed more standard) coding scheme applied it would be hard to confirm KGrzbV.9.
The last reason for doubt is that the second character resembles anything but a letter P. I see a right side vertical line, making it more an H, M or N. However, 9H, 9M and 9N were not known unit codes. The next best match is 9K+, which would make it a transport aircraft of KG51. Would that fit?

Regards, Pieter

Re: Ju 52...what unit?

Thank you Pieter,
I have thought of 9K just like you suggested, but that would be pure speculation from my side, then better leave it until someone knows for sure about this plane!

Thanks again,

Christian
