I would like to ask a emblem question related to Pölz's unit during 1944: 7./SG 3
I the book "Stuka" by Aders & Held* there is a photo of Pölz unboarding from a Fw 190. Interesting is the embelm painted on port side below windshield. This shows Coat of Arms of superimposed on plan view of a diving Ju 87. Hikoki book Luftwaffe emblems says this would be the staffel emblem of 7./SG 3 and the "Coat of Arms is the one of Archduchy of Austria above the Enns". So far so good.
On the p. 192 of the Stuka! book there is a photo of pair of Fw 190s marked D + (I ?) and further back L + I. The letters are dark and should note 8. Staffel. At least the "D" seems to have the same emblem äs Pölz's plane.
My question is if the emblem said to be 7./SG 3 Staffel emblem is a Gruppe emblem instead (III/ SG3)?
Another question of mine is if Pölz's Flugbuch has survived? The photo of his Fw 190 shows it to carry (white) letter which is one of these: C, G, O, Q. I would think the letter "C" is the most probable one, but would love to have this verified.
The importance of this information for me is that III/SG 3 was the last Schlacht unit which remained in Estonia late Summer 1944. They were based at Põltsamaa (written also as Pöltsama, Poltsama etc. the German name would be Oberpahlen). The unit did fly only very few missions from there because of the fuel situation. Possibly they took part in the missions supporting the German counter attack North of Tartu (Dorpat) early September.
