The Millie G - how many?
All
How many Millie Gs were there? I corresponded way back in 2002 with the late General. He mentioned that he had 8 MGs (4 x P-38 and 4 x P-51). I have found seven – 2 x P-38 and 5 x P-51 as follows: - P-38H CY-G Giller Maj. Edward B The Millie G - P-38J CY-G Giller Maj. Edward B The Millie G - P-51D CY-G, 44-15701, Giller Maj. Edward B The Millie G. Engine seized, A/C abandoned near Bruges, pilot Frank E Birtciel baled out safely, returned to duty (RTD). 3-Apr-45. - P-51D CY-G, 44-14985, Giller Maj. Edward B The Millie G. Lost 22 March 45. F/O George Nastanovich POW - P-51D CY-G, 44-72123, Giller Maj. Edward B The Millie G - P-51D CY-G, 44-73204, Giller Maj. Edward B The Millie G - P-51D CY-G, 44-63204, Giller Maj. Edward B The Millie G. On 14 September 1945, P-51 44-63204, crashed on take off at Kaufbueren/R-70 (Germany) and sustained Cat 3 damage. I am wondering if the last two are the same aircraft- seems a big coincidence one is 73 and one is 63 (204)? Cheers Dave Last edited by DaveM2; 12th May 2021 at 06:15. |

Re: The Millie G - how many?
Do not have an answer, but in 1967 or so the US International Plastic Modeller's Society (IPMS) had the general and Millie G as guests of their convention. They published an article on his airplanes and their markings in their quarterly journal at around the same time.

Re: The Millie G - how many?
Was almost 20 years ago, but looks like it. Note that this also states 4 x P-38 and 4 x P-51...and then goes on to list 5 x P-51s

Re: The Millie G - how many?
Good morning all:
The identification of 44-73204 as CY-G is incorrect. That particular serial number was designated for deployment to the 5th AF but most likely never left the US. The aircraft was deployed to SAC with the 308th FS/31st FG on 9 August 1949 and TERM on 5 May 1950. I did not find any other P-51D-25NA identifications with CY-G. I hope that this helps a bit. I did contact LittleFriends and let them know. Ted51 |

I think 44-63204 P-51D 343 CY G Giller Maj. Edward B The Millie G Crash-landed 14 44-73204 P-51D 343 CY G Giller Maj. Edward B The Millie are same aircraft mis-id and only 44-63204 So 4 * P-51 |

Re: The Millie G - how many?
Thanks Ted / Paul, that is most helpful.
So only two of his P-38s are unidentified (model rather than serial). cheers Dave |
