Danes in the Lwf
Hello,
Niels-Hans Nielsen, born at Huntrup/Tondern nd lost on 28.Sept. 1940 with 6.KG76 , was he "dänisches" citizen ? Family lived i. Steinhude Niels Knudsen supposed deadly wounded on 27.Aug. 1940 with 9.KG30 dane ? Rémi |

Interesting that Nielsen was born in the Tondern district in 1913. The area was German then but became Danish after the Great War.

Tønder/Tondern was danisk untill 1864 were preussian forces beat the the danes in a war. Came back to Denmark 1920. Some families choose to move to Germany. Other moved from Germany to Denmark.

It is convoluted. My uncle was born in Apenrade but was officially German when serving with the Waffen-SS.
