What a coincidence !!

There was a picture in the newspaper, so I came looking here, hoping for some more info or maybe post the pic and ask about it.

Text accompanying the picture was : "A German warplane, lying in the North Sea near the Norwegian island Sotra, has been recovered. The plane crashed on Dec. 15 1943. The pilot was the only survivor of this aerial disaster".

Especially the last part intrigued me ... the Fw190 being a single-seater.
A disaster is when a 747 crashes IMHO.

Well, two questions.
I understand that the decisions will be finally undertaken after cleaning of the airframe, but is it planned to preserve it as it is, if possible?
Old black codes are visible on the photos, and I presume this aircraft may have previously served with another unit, eg. on Channel front. Is there any record of it or perhaps an overpainted unit emblem?

What is interesting, the flaps seem to be still set to a start position and I wonder if this Fw 190 flew with two MG 151/20 only or the MG 17 were lost during accident or raised later? Is it possible to see if their ammo boxes are still on the firewall or they are removed too?

Yep, WNr 5425, same Gruppe of JG 5 and an A-2. Are you saying this is the recovered machine and the same machine? as listed in June? If so, I guess it was repaired after the June BL.

You are correct in that the cooling slits are wrong on my profile. That was because I expected them to be modified as on many other A-2/3s used by JG 5 in 1943-45, i.e. with cooling flaps attached (I started work on this profile months ago, working from underwater photage). See for instance how the majority of 14.(J)/JG 5's A-3s appeared.

This correction and a few other imrpovements are being implemented right now!

The MG cover and MG 17s were removed by divers prior to the rescue.
