Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Aircraft in third link of post 2822 is clearly a 103 Squadron Fairey Battle.

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Yes indeed, it is P2191 which was lost on 14 May 1940, force-landing near Sedan.
Both crew were safe. |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Hi all,
nice founding from previous post (thank you Edwest) - look like P-47 serial number 42-76000, but I have no more info about this plane, just Written off (damaged beyond repair) during landing on Bari airfield - date 4th January 1944 https://www.ebay.de/itm/295918281973...Bk9SR6bn6uHfYg https://www.ebay.de/itm/235181916914...Bk9SR6bn6uHfYg https://www.ebay.de/itm/295918275716...Bk9SR6bn6uHfYg same seller, probably same plane https://www.ebay.de/itm/235181889137...86.c101224.m-1 Looking for more info, thank you Faenor |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Faenor
The last digit could be either a 0, 6 or 8. Since it does not look like a landing accident you walk away from I would say 42-76000 is out. Also adding the fact the photo is on the German e-bay making it likely to have its origin from a German and is thus even less likely to be -76000. 42-76006 reportedly had the code 82, and if that is correct, she is out as well. 42-76008 was shot down by flak 7 June 1944, has no known code and seems to me to be a much better candidate, perhaps the best? Re: eBay: Allied intrest
42-76008 is a good candidate. Look at the vegetation in the background of the first photo I posted.
76008 (MSN 4359) 65th FS, 57th FG, 12th AF, Alto, Folelli, Corsica; Damaged by small arms fire while strafing a target at Sensano and crashed later near La Madonnina, Italy June 7, 1944; Pilot killed. MACR 5788. From joebaugher.com |
