Re: Recommendations for Book on German Ace Hans-Joachim Marseille

Thank you for the thoughtful response Laurent.

I am reluctant to have Kurowski's books on my shelf after having read the wikipedia page about his writing on the bombing of Dresden. Similarly, once I learned of Hans-Ulrich Rudel's post war life I got rid of my well thumbed copy of Stuka Pilot.

This may seem like an overreaction but not to those of us currently experiencing life in the United States.

I like to share book news at this forum and have no real desire to start a fractious debate.

That book itself told me everything I needed to know about Rudel’s world view if he still thought like that in 1949 (when it first came out).

P.S. Thanks for mentioning the Wikipedia page on Kurowski. Very informative, and I had no idea that Volkmar Kühn was one of his pen names.

I hate to shatter your illusions but I don’t have the entire forum committed to memory quite yet.

Re: Recommendations for Book on German Ace Hans-Joachim Marseille

I am not quite getting the idea of not having a book due to political leanings of the author.
That said, Kurowski's books fall into category of good guys in evil service publications, which spread just before and following FRG access to NATO. They must be treated with caution at least, but I am afraid in many cases there is nothing better.
The other problem is, that there is very little in terms of personal information available. Interpersonal links are often essential in understanding policies from staff to staffeln level, but this information is mostly missing. A list of flights or victories of Marseille would miss a fair bit information about him.
