Gerhard Vogt information please

Hi all,

Can anyone help with an accurate 'time' for Leutnant Gerhard Vogt of 7/JG26.
Piloting an FW190. shot down, during the subsequent forced landing he finally crashed through high tension cables on 5th July 1944 between Bure and Mele-sur-Sarthe.

Alternatively, what FW units were in combat between 1150 and 1200 hrs on the 5th between the south of Lisieux and over Lisieiux.

What became of Vogt ?

Many Thanks.

I can't help with time but details of his subsequent career, including appointments etc., before his death, can be found here:

Re: Gerhard Vogt information please

Vogt was KIA by 78FG Mustangs (probably) or 355FG Mustangs (possibly) depending on exactly where he went down in Koln area. The 78th scored from Koln and to the west and northwest - the 355th scored from Dummer Lake through Munster and south toward Koln.

My belief is that Caldwell got it right when he identified the 78th as the unit which hit JG26 hard on the 14th. I'm still trying to determine whether the 355th tangled w/JG27, JG4, JG3 or JG1 or a combination as they shot down both 190s and 109s

Regards,

Bill

So, based on the photo above, he was not KIA?

Re: Gerhard Vogt information please

We are talking about 2 different combats here.
The picture may depict him after he crash landed on the 5th July 1944
"On 5 July, Vogt was injured when his Fw 190 A-8 (W.Nr. 170 661) “Brown 13” hit power lines as he was attempting a crash-landing between Buré and Mele sur Sarthe following combat with Spitfires."
He was finally killed in action flying a D-9 on the 14th January 45:
"On 14 January 1945, JG 26 was ordered to engage Allied fighter-bombers harassing German ground troops in the Ardennes region. In transit to their assigned patrol zone 5./JG 26 was engaged by USAAF fighters. Vogt was shot down and killed in the ensuing combat crashing with his Fw 190 D-9 (W.Nr. 210 176) “White 13” near Köln."
Do not know if both of his wreckages were ever discovered...maybe the start of this thread do have something related to the finding or vestiges of one of those aircraft.

Yours, must humbly
Adriano

Re: Gerhard Vogt information please

SPITFIRE 9,

Personally, I would bet on the claims submitted by F/O Davenport (401 Squadron) and F/O Laubman (412 Sqdn) around 12:00hs, to the W and NW of Chartres being the probable for VOGT, rather than those submitted by 403 Squadron (at 11:50hs on the Lisieux and 12 miles south of Lisieux area), according to the huge and master-piece of History "2nd Tactical Air Force, volume 2 - pgs.205 up to 207 - by Shores and Thomas".
