FW Erwin Egelar 12.NJGI

Would anyone know anything about the subject JU88 nightfighter. 12./NJG1 and Stab IV./NJGI KIA 19/20 Oct./44. He was shot down in air combat & crashed at Treysa. It is believed this gentleman was the pilot who shot my father's aircraft, Lancaster ND969 down near the village of Papiermuhle on the night of Aug.12/13, 1944.

Thank you
Leslie (Trotter) Zwingli

Leslie,

Balss has the following -

Bf 110 G-4 Wkr Num 110152 G9+CZ

Fw Erwin Egeler, Uffz Alois Hermanns and Gefr Lothar Schubert - all killed.

Tony Wood's Claims Lists show nothing for this crew on the date given. In fact for that part of 1944 there is a claim for:-

19-20.09.44 Fw. Egeler Stab IV./NJG 1 Lancaster  W.S.W. Mönchen-Gladbach: 2.600 m. 22.58 Film C. 2027/II Anerk: Nr.

Hope that this helps.

Re: FW Erwin Egelar 12.NJGI

Hi Leslie,

I have the crash site as Dreislar near Frankenberg.

Flugzeugfuehrer Fw. Erwin Egeler Bordfunker Uffz. Alois Hermanns Bordmechaniker Gefr. Lothar Schubert

They were based at Dortmund-Brackel.

This information comes from an excellent private publication written by Horst Muenter.

All the best, David.
