SAAF Avro Ansons

I have recently purchased the book '85 Years of the South African Air Force' by Winston Brent which gives some details on individual aircraft histories but it doesn't give any details as to which squadrons/units individual aircraft served in. I looking for information on the serial numbers of Avro Ansons that flew in operational SAAF squadrons (i.e. not those used in training units).

Thanks,

Neil

Re: SAAF Avro Ansons

Hi.
I have not seen any books re this topic in S Africa.
Ansons did not always stay in one sqdrn, but moved around different units.
The only way that may help is to look up the serial ranges and go to the Air Britain publications and write down all the serials and sqdrns mentioned in those books. They also did a book 'The Anson File', that may help.
Last option is to go to the airchives in Pta and pull them out of the War Diaries.
Hope it helps

Hello Neil,

I agree with Stefaan, the Air britain book The Anson File would be your best bet.
The other Air Britain books in the RAF serial series will only give in most cases if not all the note " To SAAF" with a date.

Alex
