Hi,

The 10th Photo Recce Group reported the loss of a F-6C an 16.3.1945.
I`m looking for the name of the pilot and his fate.

Tom Ivie in "Patton's Eyes in the Sky" ISBN 1-903223-26-1 states that Lt Bob Shiveley of 15TRS was hit by flak and bailed out near Bingen. No other details.

In :Me262 combat Diary by John Foreman & S.Harvey stands to the 16.3.1945:
Major Theodor Weissenberger, Kommodore of J.G.7, claimed a Mustang shot down north-west of Eberswalde….
The crash-position of a P-51 was located north of Marienwerder, 15 miles west of Eberswalde. Parts of the pilot-helmet and the canopy were found. I think the pilot died in the crash.
The crash-time lies between October 1944 and March 1945. From the 5.12.1944, it cannot be, because this one P-51 went down between Finow and Eberswalde.
More crashes in this time are to me not known. Therefore, it could be the airplane of the 16.3.1945.

The pilot's name Lt. Bob Shively can't be right. He appears as the wingman of 2nd Lt. Earl Ray, who is stated in the book and in the OpRep of "15th Tec Rec Sqd, covering operations from 0700A to 2000A 16 March 1945"

... Losses: 1 F6D and Pilot, 2nd Lt. Earl Ray. Hit by flak at approx. 1645A near Mannheim. Flew to area sothwest of Bingen and bailed out. Lt. Ray said, he was o.k., but was bailing out at above location from 1000 ft. His last words were an admonition to his No. 2, Lt. Shively: "Look after my stuff, Shive".

This opreration report was written a day or two after the mission and I believe, that Lt. Ray and not Lt Shively was the pilot in question.
