Re: Barbarossa & Retreat to Moscow

Hello Mars, I was wondering if this book had a new style to telling their stories? Also does it weave in up to date material with their stories.

Marsyo, What I meant does the book give the date and location that go with the interviews. Some of the old accounts sounded like the same lines for everyone.

those interview occurs around 2002, and those verterians have some interesing comment regard to Pokryshkin, it looks like Pokryshkin had an "I am attacking, all of you cover me !" attitude same as many other top-aces/celebities !

Re: Barbarossa & Retreat to Moscow

I've just read Artem Drabkin's book. The title "Barbarossa & The Retreat To Moscow" is miss leading if your looking for just the VVS pilot experiences during that time. The book does have the experiences of 5 pilots and a Tech during the war on the eastern front from interviews by the author. If your into what VVS pilots opinions about the fighters of the west, German and Russian makes, this book has them. Their experience relates through out the war and different parts of the front. Their opinions about the pilots of the Germans, British and their fellow VVS officers and pilots are honest. I really enjoyed the chapters on Vitaly I. Klimenko (10IAP) and Alexander F. Khaila (168IAP). As Marsyao said it's not a history book. The interviews were all after 2000 when many of them were in their 80's.
