Re: VVS:What kind of unit is a OAZ?

Thomas,

Found a reference on www2.warwick.ac.uk dealing with Numbered Soviet Aviation Factories 1921-1941 that from 1965 on OAZ was the abbreviation for "Omskii Aviazavod".

Originally built in 1941 as an aircraft engine factory, it also made bombers and fighters during WW 2. Factory # 166.

Zveno - Flight (3-4 a/c)

So probably independent aviation flight, I'm sure one of our russian speakers will be able to confirm if I'm correct or not.

Rather "Omsk Aviation Plant". During WW 2 it built Tu-2, Yak-7 and Yak-9 airplanes. After the war it was involved in building Il-28 light bombers and Tu-104 passenger planes.
Then focus shifted to space and missiles.

It is now known as Polyot Production Association, one of Russia's major aerospace companies.

Leendert
