NA/Kew: AIR 20/923 Dutch and Danish squadrons in the R.A.F.

Would anyone be familiar with this record? Maybe one of our Dutch friends?

Scope and content: Dutch and Danish squadrons in the R.A.F.
Covering dates: 1942 Dec.-1947 Jan.
Availability: Open Document, Open Description, Normal Closure before FOI Act: 30 years
Former reference (Department): ID/12/272 A8D
Held by: The National Archives, Kew

I am - as one might sucpect - most interested in this records' information on a Danish squadron. At first hand the extent of information on the Danish squadron.

I know that it was a Danish wish in 1942-43 to establish a Danish unit/squadron. The Danish Legation recommended this to Foreign Office as well as the Air Ministry according to the memoires of the then legate, count Reventlow. But the number of pilots was too low and their training too varied.

Hi Mikkel

It seems like nobody else is going to respond to this.

If you check neighbouring files AIR20/920 is about Canadian sqns; /921 is about Polish and Czech sqns and /922 is about French and Belgian sqns. AIR20 includes all the files that the Air Historical Branch extracted from the Air Ministry and RAF records in order to write the official histories of the RAF in WW2.

So I would suggest that the file is likely to be helpful to you especially with regard to general policy about the involvement of Danish personnel in the RAF and issues around the creation of dedicated Danish units. It is probably unlikely that it will include material about individual Danes.

Can't help more than that

Seasons greeting to you and Denmark

Steve
