Flitzer is on a distinguished road
Lt. Miles Rudolph

Can anyone identify the Fw-190 pilot that shot down Miles Rudolph?

Here's the story of the shoot down:

Re: Lt. Miles Rudolph

There were in the region of 26 claims for P47s on this day; maybe an accurate time would help?

Re: Lt. Miles Rudolph

Flitzer !

Lt. Rudolph was reported by German (LGK) officials on KU # 2942 on December 23rd, 1944 at about 15:00 hours as bailed out near Lommersum, 6 miles North of Euskirchen, which is located about 24 km southwest of Cologne (Germany) and 8 km North of Euskirchen (Germany).

He itself in his postwar interrogation gave a time of shot-up as 13:00 hours (MACR # 11436). This is not realistic, since the MACR reports his loss at about 15:00 hours.

This is also according to actions of the German JG 2, here Stab III/- and II./- .

In the statement of 1st Lt. Froehlich, 410th Squadron, he mentioned " .... I was last in my flight, and as I began the turn, I saw a Me 109, chasing for (4) Mustangs in a Luftberry ...."

Here it seems, that II./JG 2 (Me 109) as well as III./JG 2 (FW 190) entered the dogfight against 479th MUSTANGS and 373rd THUNDERBOLDS.

The only victory of a German Me-109 pilot to a P-47 at about the same time as Lt. Rudolph's loss and in the same area was conducted by Unteroffizier Kirchhoff, 5./JG 2, at 14:52 hours.

Hope, this helps

With the best wishes,

Horst Weber
