Can somebody give me a clue on where to find photos of Ebbinghausen's 109E of Stab. II/JG26

Hello Andy!

That is what I only know. But some sources e.g. Aeromaster decals stay for he was also flying 109E <<+-

Does someone know where to find it?

I saw one photo but I can't remeber where.

Hi,

the white 4 had the staff markings under his upper paint layer - there is a color shot documenting this fact and taken - I think - after the war?

W.Nr 1190 and Karl Ebbighausen

Both versions of W.Nr 1190 are depicted as port side colour profiles in “Combat Colours Number 1”, SAM, by Peter Scott.

Photographs of <<+ is what you are after I suppose?

„Jagdfliegerverbände der Deutschen Luftwaffe 1934 bis 1935 Teil 4/I“ p.304.

A photo showing a II/JG 26 Bf 109 E <<+, probably <<+-, lined up with other Stab II/JG 26 in August 1940 at Marquise airfield. The aircraft is standing behind <+- and only partially visible from starboard side.
The aircraft shows the same markings and camouflage as portrayed in the colour profile mentioned above as far as can be seen.

I checked in “The JG 26 War Diary vol 1” and “JG 26: Photographic History of the Luftwaffe Top Guns”, both by Caldwell, without result….as well as half a dozen other references.

Studying the two photos on page 304 in „Jagdfliegerverbände der Deutschen Luftwaffe 1934 bis 1935 Teil 4/I“ closer......
.....I conclude that the second photo also shows <<+-, this time with the II. Gruppe bar visible.

I also noted that <-+- has the 5./JG 26 emblem ("Hans Huckebein" Raven) on the engine cowling but that <<+- seems not to have it.
<-+- at the time was the mount of Lt. Roch, according to the caption, showing 5 victory bars on the rudder.

Referring again to the photos, it is possible that <<+- had a similar yellow top portion of the rudder such as featured on the <-+- on the photo. This is not the case in the profile in "Combat Colours Number 1".
Further, the wing tips of the two aircraft seem to have a light colour - Perhaps white judging from the contrast but could also be yellow as claimed in the caption. Both 109s might have carried the tactical identification markings as described on p. 29 in "Combat Colours Number 1": Wingtip and tailplane markings (White?). According to this reference this practise, as well as the rudder marking (see above), was in use during late August.

Under the "White 4" were found the markings worn when this was Ebbighausen's mount. These photos show these markings when they were discovered.
