Re: Dornier 217 E4 Kettering

Hi Mike,

The Dornier Do 217E-4 Wnr.1225 (U5 + AD) came down at Cranford, a small village on the outskirts of Kettering. This aircraft of the Stab III/Kampfgeschwader 2 was shot down by F/Lt Lindsay Black (RNZAF) in a Spitfire Vb of No.485 Squadron during attack on Wellingborough, Northants, August 3rd 1942, killing all four crew members.
Uffz Eugen Beyerer, Uffz Erich Huwald, Uffz Zerak and Gefr Frisch all now lie in the Deutsche Soldatenfriedhof Cannock Chase: Block 9. Row 6. Grave 35.

Regards

Melvin

Re: Dornier 217 E4 Kettering

Hi Mike,

Not too much found at the crash site, come wreckage and two bomb fins, I have two pictures if you would like to pm me, I can then send you the pics. Tried to download to this site but experienced problems.
What is your interest regarding this particular Do 217, I would be interested to know as I only live five miles from the crash site.

Regards

Melvin

Re: Dornier 217 E4 Kettering

Hi Melvin

Just interested because I have had a few bits from it for a while that came with a bit of paper that just said what I had put above. I had asked around but couldnt find much more out, but that is great I always like to know as much as possible about any bits I have.

Thanks

Any idea what time it was shot down? A Do217 bombed Donisthorpe in Leicestershire/Derbyshire border at 2pm that day. I wonder if it was the same aircraft? I've heard differering stories that the Donisthorpe raider got away/didn't?!

Hmmm. Unlikely to have been hanging around for 4 hours would it? Must have been another Do217 - do you think it likely it would have been from the same unit?
